Immerse yourself in traditional Irish Dance with Ireland’s leading Munnix Dance Master Jonathan Kelliher in this four-part online series of pre-recorded classes. Part of our ‘Sharing the Tradition’ series of music, song and dance classes.
Join traditional Irish Dance Master Jonathan Kelliher to learn the very unique and beautiful North Kerry “Munnix” style traditional Irish dance. This style dates to the early 1700s and was handed down through the generations by traditional dance masters. This new series of dance classes is presented by Siamsa Tíre, the National Folk Theatre of Ireland Training Academy and is part of a new online class initiative for dancers and musicians all over the world, to work with experienced traditional tutors who will share their insights and background to step dances and tunes, as well as take the time to teach and perform them.
Jonathan will give you the history of this special dance style from North Kerry and teach you the basic steps and how to put them together.

- What exactly will I learn? These Online/On-Demand dance classes offer you a chance to enjoy our Munnix Dance classes at a time that suits you. The classes are a unique opportunity learn from a professional dance master who will share his insights and background to step dances, as well as take the time to teach and perform them. The classes are designed to be educational and help you to develop your dance skills, all while having great fun! Click on the Video Link to see what it’s all about!
- Who is teaching the class? Dancemaster Jonathan Kelliher will be your tutor, he is the Artistic Director of Siamsa Tíre’s National Folk Theatre programme. He has been studying the North Kerry style of dance since the age of 6 and followed in the footsteps of a long line of North Kerry Dance Masters to become one of the most respected voices in discussing the style and its history and is known as one of the best exponents of the style in Ireland.
- Do I need experience? A little dance experience is an advantage but not required for our Beginner/Intermediate classes. Some dance experience is recommended for those participating in the Advanced classes.
- What should I wear? Please feel free to wear dance shoes if you have them, however, they are not specifically required. Participants are recommended to wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing (that you can freely move in) such as t-shirts, leggings and runners to participate.
- Is there an age restriction? Yes, these adult classes are open to anyone over the age of 16yrs.
- When/Where are the classes taking place? Classes are pre-recorded and available to watch at your leisure whenever and wherever you prefer.
- Can I watch them more than once? Yes! Classes are available to watch at your leisure as often as you wish, practice makes perfect!
- How much do the classes cost? Each series of four classes costs €50.
- How many series are available? There are 3 series available, each have 4 classes.
- How many levels are available? There are 2 levels available, Beginner/Intermediate and Advanced.
- How do I book? Click on your preferred series to purchase. Once booked, you will receive a confirmation email, followed by links to access each of the relevant four workshops. Do not share your ticket link as it is valid on one device only within your own household.
