Picture This! Imagine That! Art Exhibition

by Dr. Nora Donnelly 2nd July - 2nd Aug 2024

The exhibition featured the work of two artists- Daniel de’ Angeli and Dr. Nora Donnelly. De’ Angeli graciously allowed Nora to ‘borrow’ images and re-interpret them in another form, giving new life to them, re-imaging them and bringing them closer into a the life and concerns of a wider world.

They were bound together in the energy and wonder of the Saint Brendan story and each exhibition exulted in his venerable and vulnerable journey.

Daniel de’ Angeli
Daniel de’ Angeli, Italian painter, illustrator and art teacher was born in Buenos Aires in 1954. Working mainly in watercolours, his paintings – including the ‘Voyage of St. Brendan’ series - have been exhibited widely in many countries and are in private collections all over the world.

Dr. Nora Donnelly
Dr. Nora Donnelly is a practising visual artist, art critic and educator. She lectured on Art Education at Mary Immaculate College, Limerick from where she has now retired. She has had a number of Solo exhibitions in Belfast and has written extensively on art criticism and education and now works on a free-lance basis as an artist and critic.

This was a unique and powerful exhibition for Siamsa Tíre and a ‘must-see’ for those who would like to draw closer to fine works of art and who treasure the experience they offer.

Artist Talks

During the exhibition run, Dr. Nora Donnelly held artist talks for both adults and schools which pointed out features of the art exhibition to give a clearer and deeper understanding of both the Art Installation and of St. Brendan himself, his journey and features of the Navigation.

She also shared the story of how this work came about and how she was inspired by the watercolours of one of the artists, Italian painter Mr. de’ Angeli who’s art features in the exhibit.

The exhibition ran from 19th-31st May 2024 with free entry.
