National Folk Theatre Choir performing

If you live here in Kerry or are visiting the county, we would love to welcome you to Siamsa Tíre. We see our venue as a gathering place where people come together to be part of a larger creative whole.

Whether it’s by attending a show, joining a class or a workshop, or becoming part of our choir; there are all sorts of ways in which you can become part of the story here at Siamsa Tíre.

We’re always looking for new members to join our Folk Theatre Choir. Siamsa Tíre is rooted in a long history of traditional singing. Back in 1957, our founder Father Pat Ahern was brought to Tralee to set up a choir here and the performing theatre company we have today grew out of that choir. That’s why we decided to re-establish a choir in 2015. It’s made up of members of our local community and all you need to do to join is contact our Choral Mistress/Music Director?,  to arrange for an audition.

If you’re aged between 7 and 12 and interested in traditional Irish dancing, singing, or music, the National Folk Training Theatre Academy could be just the thing for you. Auditions take place every summer and children who pass are then trained in the unique Siamsa Tíre style for three years, after which they may receive the opportunity to complete more advanced training to become a member of the Community Cast.

We host all sorts of classes and workshops that you might like to attend. Aspiring dancers might like to join the Sharing the Traditions classes hosted by our Dance Master Jonathan Kelliher, both in person and online. Others may prefer to take part in a sea shanties workshop, a class teaching circus skills, or a pottery class. Our class and workshop offering changes throughout the year and we try our best to keep it as varied as possible, with something for all ages and interests.

We share our facilities with a wide range of drama groups and musical societies too. There’s the Youth Theatre Group, the Oliver Hurley Stage School, the Bryan Carr School of Performing Arts, Kerry School of Music, to name but a few.

Siamsa Tíre is also available for hire. Just imagine: you can hire our venue for your next meeting, conference, or event here in Kerry, associating your brand with ours and benefitting from all the facilities we have to offer. It’s just one of the many ways that we welcome you to gather here at Siamsa Tíre.
