Young Curators attend 2024 Dublin Fringe Festival – A Weekend of Art, Inspiration, and
Connection

Jane and Moreblessing had the incredible opportunity to attend the 2024 Dublin Fringe Festival as Young Curators for Siamsa Tire. Read all about their experience below!

Over two packed days, we immersed ourselves in a whirlwind of thought-provoking performances, networking events, and visual art, which left us inspired and eager to bring some of these experiences back to our own community in Kerry for the LASTA Festival 2025.

One of the standout performances was Earth’s Sonnet, composed by Mel Mercier, a captivating blend of spoken word, music, and poetry that explored the climate crisis. This moving piece was set in the Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies, and what made it truly unique was the backing track, a composition of the Earth’s tectonic plates moving, amplified through cutting-edge technology. The experience was equal parts suspenseful, joyful, and deeply reflective, giving the audience a profound connection to the planet in the midst of its turmoil.

Beyond Earth’s Sonnet, we dove into a range of plays like Monsters and Suckin Diesel, each bringing their own powerful narratives to the stage.

We also had the pleasure of attending Boss Rob: A Masterclass for Aspiring Artists, a workshop designed for kids that brought fun and creativity to the forefront of the arts experience for younger audiences.

The networking events were another highlight, giving us the chance to meet some of the incredible artists behind these shows. It was particularly exciting to connect with Kerry’s own Praise Titus from Milltown, who co-wrote and directed Ololufe, with Arinola Theatre Company It was a special moment to see how artists from Kerry are making waves in Dublin, and it reminded us of the rich talent we have back home.

Of course, we couldn’t leave without experiencing some of Dublin’s visual art. Our visit to the Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA) was a perfect way to round off the weekend, with Alex Cecchetti’s art in the Take a Breath exhibition truly blowing us away.

Overall, the weekend was a whirlwind of inspiration, connection, and creativity. It reaffirmed our excitement for the LASTA Festival 2025, and we can’t wait to see how some of these powerful experiences might shape the festival’s direction.

Keep an eye out for more updates as we continue our journey as Young Curators!
