Siamsa Tíre Celebrates Return of Refurbished Steinway Piano with International Jazz Star Shuteen Erdenebaatar
Siamsa Tíre is delighted to announce the return of its newly refurbished Steinway piano, which made its debut appearance on stage at a special concert by internationally acclaimed pianist and composer Shuteen Erdenebaatar on Sunday 21 June.
The restoration marks a significant milestone for Siamsa Tíre, ensuring that one of its most treasured artistic assets continues to serve musicians and audiences for generations to come.
Originally sourced by Siamsa Tíre founder Fr. Pat Ahern, the Steinway has been at the heart of countless performances over the years. Its refurbishment represents both an investment in artistic excellence and a commitment to preserving an important part of the organisation’s cultural heritage.
The refurbishment was made possible through support received under the Music Capital Scheme, managed by Music Network and funded by the Department of Culture, Communications & Sport.
Presented by Music Network, the concert featured the extraordinary Shuteen Erdenebaatar Quartet. Born in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, Erdenebaatar is widely recognised as one of the most exciting emerging voices in international jazz. Praised by Jazzwise as “one of the most exciting young talents in jazz”, she has received numerous international awards, including the BMW Young Artist Jazz Award and the German Jazz Award, while her compositions have been performed by leading orchestras and ensembles across Europe and Asia.
Combining classical precision with the freedom and improvisation of jazz, Erdenebaatar’s music is celebrated for its lyricism, emotional depth and distinctive artistic voice, making her the ideal artist to introduce audiences to the newly restored instrument.
Commenting on the occasion, Angela Ryan Whyte, CEO of Siamsa Tíre, said: “As we look to the future, it is important that we continue to care for the artistic and cultural assets entrusted to us. This restoration honours Fr. Pat Ahern’s legacy of innovation and artistic ambition while ensuring that this beautiful instrument continues to bring exceptional music to audiences for many years to come. It will help us attract outstanding artists from around the world, broaden our programme, and connect more people with the transformative power of live performance.”
The concert also reflects Siamsa Tíre’s ongoing commitment to investing in artistic excellence and creating opportunities for audiences in Kerry to experience world-class performance in their local theatre.
