Breaking News: Stray Lion Spotted near Tralee Town Park Early this Morning!

News Report: Tues 1st April 2025

We’ve just received reports of a Stray Lion sighting at Tralee Town Park earlier this morning.

Witnesses describe the big cat as being “Incredibly Calm” and even a little “Cowardly”. 🦁

Siamsa Tíre have managed to capture footage of this amazing creature as it passed by the theatre building just before 3am this morning and have released a still from the ‘OZ Cam’ CCTV recording.

But where can he have come from? Some people have speculated that he may have escaped from a local circus. Justin Walsh, Community Engagement Officer at Siamsa Tíre says there is no need to call wildlife experts as he can easily explain….

It’s a simple case of following the Yellow Brick Road! Due to the bright sunshiny days we’ve been enjoying recently, the Yellow Brick Road to Siamsa Tíre was extra magical and extra visible last night. This led to our dear friend the Cowardly Lion accidently wandering over to Tralee Town Park a little too early in the year”.

Justin goes on to say:

You see, our summer camps and summer musical will be inspired by The Wizard of Oz, a theatrical adventure of dance, singing, drama, arts & crafts, games, and activities—all set against the enchanting backdrop of our theatre!

But Cowardly Lion is not supposed to be here until our Summer Camps start in July! The good news is that the Box Office staff and I have watched the entire CCTV footage and saw that Cowardly Lion eventually found his way back to Oz safe and sound”.

We’ll be sure to keep you updated as we get more information! And, if you are lucky enough to spot the Cowardly Lion again, feel free to say hello and snap a photo (from a safe distance, of course!). 👀📸
