Bothántaíocht part of Lasta Festival 2024.

Young talent will take centre stage with some special guests along the way. A wonderful night of music, song and dance is promised, celebrating the idea of ‘gathering together’ to share, to sing and to have fun! A gathering together of like-minded people to celebrate culture, talent and creativity! As part of this years Lasta Festival, Siamsa Tíre’s Young Curators have invited young performers and audiences to come together and celebrate their talents. To play music, sing and dance together.

The evening will also include a special performance by Killarney School of Music students of ‘StageWorks’. StageWorks is a weekly class delivered at Killarney School of Music, specifically for Trad pupils interested in group performance of music and song. The class is delivered in a non-competitive, light-hearted ‘youth club’ style where the weekly gathering is also a teenage social occasion.

Pupils from outside the school are also made feel very welcome. Music and songs from all cultural regions of Ireland and other Celtic nations are explored and developed into set pieces to be performed for respectful audiences at various high profile public events, collaborations, concerts, cultural exchanges, and festivals.

The evening, curated by young people for young people, will give Kerry’s finest talent the opportunity to perform as part of a celebration of creativity!

Lasta 2024

Young Curators’ Festival 2024: A National Arts Festival by Young People for Young People which takes place between Tuesday 4th – Sunday 9th June 2024.

The Lasta Festival, based on a project originally conceived and delivered by Backstage Theatre in Longford and now in its third year, has blossomed to include venues and individual curators nationwide, and an expanding programme of exciting, multidisciplinary work.  In an innovative and exciting approach to programming, 19 young curators have been engaged by seven regional venues to programme a festival of work for young people nationwide.

Under the guidance of theatre artist Maisie Lee, these young people will work collaboratively to deliver an ambitious line up of work.  Featuring multiple disciplines and reflecting the diversity of modern Ireland, this festival offers a unique opportunity to develop our future arts programmers and producers. The line-up for this year’s festival will feature theatre, music, comedy, dance, film, photography and experiential moments promising a fresh, fun, and exciting festival.

The seven regional venues involved in the initiative are Backstage Theatre (Longford) Dunamaise Arts Centre (Portlaoise) glór (Ennis) An Grianán (Letterkenny) The Lime Tree Theatre (Limerick) Siamsa Tíre (Tralee) and Town Hall Theatre (Galway)
