Join Laureate na nÓg Patricia Forde and a bus full of children’s writers and illustrators from Malin Head to Mizen Head with a stop at Siamsa Tire, working with young readers to imagine new worlds in words and pictures! Be a part of the adventure and join them for this FREE interactive storytelling event for 5th and 6th class groups.

About the Event:

This exciting event will be a live story creation with four artists on stage including an illustrator and writers.

The children will work with the writers to create a brand-new story together while the illustrator produces artwork to accompany the children’s story. These illustrations will be projected onto a screen for everyone to see in real time while the artist draws. The audience can see their story come together as they view what their new characters and the world they are creating will look like.

The event is lots of fun and includes audience participation as children share their ideas and suggestions. This is an inclusive event for all 5th & 6th class students, during the show, the children are more than welcome to move around or pop outside for some quiet time if needed.

About the Bus Tour:

This first-of-its-kind ‘Whole Wild World Bus Tour’ will bring children’s writers and illustrators to schools, libraries, bookshops and cultural venues all along the west coast of Ireland this April to host workshops, readings and artist events for school groups, library groups and families.

Travelling on a multicolour, 30-seater coach, the tour begins at Ireland’s most northerly point, Malin Head in County Donegal, on Monday, 15th April and concludes at Kinsale Library in Cork on Sunday, 28th April. The tour will include stops at Easky, County Sligo; Furbo, County Galway; Ennistymon, County Clare; Tralee and Killorglin in County Kerry, among others. The full list of participating schools, bookshops, libraries and cultural venues can be found at the Laureate na nÓg website, Visit childrenslaureate.ie

About Patricia Forde:

“I’m very excited at the prospect of meeting young readers and writers all the way from Malin to Mizen in April! This tour is about igniting imaginations and ensuring that Ireland will have another generation of great writers and illustrators, by bringing books and their creators to an audience that doesn’t often get a chance to meet them in their own local area. We will have so many exciting artists on board, hoping to inspire and to be inspired, to share stories and have lots of fun!” Patricia Forde, Laureate na nÓg

Set up by the Arts Council of Ireland in 2010, Laureate na nÓg is a position awarded in Ireland once every two years to a distinguished writer or illustrator of children’s books. Patricia Forde was announced as Laureate na nÓg in May 2023 and will hold the prestigious title until 2026. The Whole Wild World bus tour will form a central part of her Laureate term. Patricia is a native of Galway and has published over 20 titles for children of all ages, in Irish and English. As a former teacher, former director of the Galway Arts Festival, and co-founder of the Baboró International Arts Festival for Children, she is a long-standing advocate for children’s right to culture. Her theme, Samhlaigh! Samhlaigh! Making it Up as We Go Along seeks to spark wild creativity across the country – bringing children and artists together to inspire one another, to imagine new worlds, and most of all, to have fun along the way.
