The Folk Homecoming exhibition showcases the legacy of Siamsa Tíre and is a celebration of folk, its past, present and future. Enjoy an interactive journey through Ireland’s National Folk Theatre, taking you from its foundation half a century ago and introducing you to some of the people who have shaped and championed the work over the years.
Ireland’s rich cultural heritage as expressed through our music, song, storytelling, and dance is renowned and appreciated all over the world.
Siamsa Tíre, The National Folk Theatre of Ireland, has been exploring, sustaining, sharing, and passing on our culture since our beginnings in 1968. Siamsa Tíre cares passionately about Irish culture, our traditions and creativity. We want to ensure that people of all ages and backgrounds can explore, understand, feel at home and enjoy Irish folk culture, its past, present and future.
Irish folk culture is not a tangible product nor an artefact of history. It is our living cultural heritage, alive in us, now, here, together, being ourselves.
In this exhibition, we celebrate the legacy of a performing company. We invite you to enjoy a visual and aural journey through Ireland’s National Folk Theatre, incorporating the unique and indigenous style of Munnix Irish dance, dating back to the 1700’s, our vast repertoire of performances and the importance of training and educating future generations and ‘passing on’, not only the ethos and cultural material, but also our passion for folk theatre and performance development.
Photographs, audio and video material from our archive will tell the story of our earliest beginnings half a century ago and introduce you to some of the people who have shaped and championed the work over the years. Through this exhibition we hope to share our story with you, and allow you to experience a celebration of folk, it’s past, present and future.
