‘God’s First Name is Art’

Dutch artist, Henk Heideveld, presented portraits of some seminal figures who have featured in Irish folk music and culture over many years and who have influenced him including some portraits of Irish friends who are important to him.

Born in the Netherlands in 1950, Henk Heideveld began working as a professional artist in 1975.

 Heideveld’s art is based on contrapositions and oppositions: belief and disbelief, heaven and holocaust, Holland and Ireland, God and Art. He explains that this is why he uses text in his work every now and then, as you can see from the title of this exhibition.
