Kerry Icons Collection

Paul Egan is a 21-year-old artist living and working out of the Dingle Peninsula. This was Paul’s debut solo exhibition, and while he is new to the art scene, some of his pieces included in this exhibition have been highlighted and published by the 'National Gallery of Ireland' on their social media platforms.

The Kerry Icons Collection was based on honouring Kerry's iconic record breakers throughout history, while also shining a light on forgotten heroes who have left an irrefutable mark on the world we live in. The collection was made up of 50 artworks of beloved storytellers such as Peig Sayers, John B. Keane and Christie Hennessy; sporting icons such as Kieran Donaghy, Mary Jo Curran and Mick O'Connell; award winning actors such as Jessie Buckley, Tim V. Murphy and Michael Fassbender, and historic changemakers such as Sister Consilio, Daniel O'Connell and Austin Stack.

Each personality had been chosen to highlight all aspects of our culture, while also showing the current youth how many influential grass roots icons have developed and flourished from their own hometowns.

The medium Paul used is a form of graffiti realism print, made up of 8 stencils of various intricacies and sprayed onto a repurposed vinyl record recovered from various charity organisations throughout Tralee, creating a near photo realistic portrait of each individual person. The pieces are finished in a 37x37cm white deep boxed frame and housed behind a sheet of clear Perspex to protect the art piece and its subsequent mount.

The exhibition ran right up to Culture Night (Fri 20th Sept 2024) where Paul offered public interactive workshop for children in which they created their own artwork to bring home, learn about how to create this type of artwork and the different forms that graffiti art can come in and the different mediums that exist.

Each artwork was available to purchase at a cost of €195. 

The Official opening of Kerry Icons Collection took place at 6pm, Sat 10th Aug 2024 with guest speaker Rebekah Wall.
