Launch of Roots

SIAMSA Tíre  has announced a new artist residency programme launching in 2026, dedicated to supporting professional artists across all disciplines.

Whether working in theatre, dance, music, literature, visual arts, circus, digital innovation, or interdisciplinary practice, the Roots residency offers artists the time, space, and resources needed to cultivate new ideas in a nurturing, artist-centred environment.

Roots aims to provide stability and support for artists as they create new work, and to strengthen the connection between artistic practice, community, and place.

It is designed to give artists the freedom and support to explore and develop their work. The programme will provide: Dedicated Development Space; In-house Support; Workspace & Resources; Work-in-Progress Sharing; Financial Bursary.

Three bursaries will be available in 2026, tailored to the needs of the project and career stage—early career, mid-career, or established. One bursary will be awarded to an early-career artist.

Siamsa Tíre defines early career artists as recent graduates or those with 1–2 years’ practice, mid-career as 2–5 years’ practice, and established as 5+ years’ practice.

Roots is grounded in Siamsa Tíre’s deep commitment to Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI). The organisation actively encourages applications from artists of all backgrounds, identities, abilities, and disciplinary approaches.

Sustainability is also central to the programme. As one of Ireland’s recognised Green Arts venues, Siamsa Tíre supports climate-conscious creative practice and can provide guidance for artists wishing to incorporate environmental awareness into their work

Angela Ryan Whyte, CEO of Siamsa Tíre, adds: “Roots is about giving artists the time and freedom to push into new territory while staying grounded in the world around them. We want to support work that is brave, curious, and reflective of the diversity of contemporary Ireland. Our ambition is for Siamsa Tíre to be a place where artists feel genuinely connected – to community, to place, and to their own creative instincts. Through Roots, we’re creating a space where artists can take risks, develop new ideas, and engage meaningfully with the cultural conversations shaping our time.”

The residency is open to professional artists in all disciplines who can demonstrate an active artistic practice.

Siamsa Tíre particularly welcomes applications from artists who are underrepresented in the arts or whose work engages with EDI and sustainability themes.

Applications will be assessed based on: Artistic Quality, Feasibility, Professional Development, Engagement and Alignment with Values.

Applicants must submit a short CV, a 2–3 page proposal, and supporting materials. For further information and details of how to apply, please visit www.siamsatire.com/artists/roots/. Applications open 1st Dec and close 5th January 2026.
