About our new website and brand

Like many arts centres across the world, Siamsa Tíre had to close its doors in March 2020.  This gave the team here an opportunity to reflect on the theatre’s role in the local and national community.  It made them realise that their brand identity no longer clearly conveyed what it stood for.  The time had come for Siamsa Tíre to reimagine how it represented itself to the world.

We worked with graphic designers to test and tease out all sorts of ideas, before eventually agreeing on one central image – that of the well.

“During lockdown, we returned to our metaphorical well to rejuvenate and draw inspiration, solace, and sustenance for the soul,” says Siamsa Tíre’s Artistic Director Jonathan Kelliher.  “This metaphor of the well, from which we all draw, became the focal point of our conversations.”

Designer Louise Kiernan created a linocut depicting a well, the printed version of which is Siamsa Tíre’s new visual graphic.  As she layered her strokes, she imagined each one as someone who had made their mark on Siamsa Tíre’s history, contributing to a much bigger cultural picture.

“I felt I was reflecting the history of the organisation and honouring each person who made their mark and contributed to its success,” says Louise.

In addition to the well, further etched elements were included in the brand refresh including the Siamsa Tíre font, logo and a series of elements including fire, wind, water, and earth which tie into Celtic mythology and the Celtic calendar, which shapes the programming at Siamsa Tíre.

Siamsa Tíre has looked deep into our past to design a new brand identity and a new website for our future.  We hope it helps you to connect with what’s happening at the theatre now and in the many exciting years ahead.
